The Silvertone 1457 is an iconic "amp-in-case" electric guitar system manufactured by Danelectro for Sears and sold under the Silvertone brand from late 1964 to 1967. Celebrated for its quirky engineering, lo-fi grit, and garage-rock heritage, this two-pickup model was a premium upgrade from its single-pickup predecessor, the 1448
Construction: A semi-hollow frame built from a poplar center block and pine edges, wrapped in Danelectro’s signature Masonite (hardboard) top and back. This lightweight build delivers a loud, snappy acoustic resonance.
•Electronics: Two single-coil "lipstick" pickups. Rather than individual controls, it utilizes two dual-concentric (stacked) volume/tone pots and a 3-way toggle switch.
•Neck & Scale: Bolt-on maple neck with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, an aluminium nut, 21 frets, and a 25-inch scale length.
•The Amp-in-Case
The true innovation of the package is the tube-driven amplifier integrated right into the hardboard, vinyl-covered carrying case.
•Power & Speaker: It features a 5- to 6-watt all-tube circuit pushing an 8-inch speaker.
•Tube Complement: Driven by a classic 6V6 power tube, two 12AX7 preamp tubes, and a 6X4 tube rectifier.
•Controls & Tremolo: Includes volume and tone controls, alongside an onboard, foot-switchable tube tremolo circuit with dedicated speed and strength dials.
